Travelling along the trail I was able to find many of the bush tucker plants that I learnt about at The Living Classroom. I even tried a few of the berries that I recognised and took photos to record and upload my journey at the rest points through the QR codes on the signage. |

I took my 9 year old son on the Reconciliation Bike Trail, starting at The Living Classroom for an introduction. He was able to learn a lot and took interest in the various textures and colours of the landscape learning about the Indigenous use of many of the plants along the way. |

Visiting the Myall Creek Massacre memorial after having only read about it online, I found the whole experience very challenging both mentally and physically coming to terms with the reality of Australia's foundation |
JESSICA SHORE
Being a student of natural medicines I took particular interest in the native bush tucker and medicinal plants that the Indigenous Australians used for their dietary and healing needs. I learnt a lot from this trip. |

At each of the rest stops I took a moment to look deeper into the story of Australia's first settlers and try to put their experiences in perspective in comparison to that of the Indigenous Australians who's land had been invaded. The contrasting stories have enlightened me to be more mindful and consider the causes and consequences of our actions whilst giving me a deeper appreciation for Australian history and geography. |

Taking a break from my busy city life I have enjoyed the fresh country air, breathtaking night sky and experiencing a smoking ceremony. This was particularly interesting as it has such an important significance to the spiritual connection Indigenous Australians have to the land and spirits. Cleansing properties believed to ward off bad spirits come from smouldering native plants which is very special to have taken part in. |
